Holiday makers can anticipate ski holidays to cost upwards of 10 per cent more for ski chalet holidays this season as tour operators reduce the number of holidays for sale.
Peak season dates will be especially pricey but even at additional dates there may be fewer big discounts on vacations.
Ski insiders say that with skiing operators cutting back on capacity by up to 16 % prices are unlikely to come down.
Bookings are already beyond the availability during Feb half-term which for the second year occur on the identical week for just about all schools in Great Britain.
The increment in prices coupled with a decrease in the amount of vacations follows what was a particularly good skiing season for snowboarders with deep snowfall all over France.
The fall of the sterling versus the euro wiped out profits and left numerous small providers in the red.
Next season already looks brighter for vacationers able to vacation in Jan and March, when costs will be up by about 16 percent on the average, in place of 33 % for high season weeks.
Airlines, chalets and skiing resorts recognize that they provide operators discounts or deals. Wise skiers will purchase as many add ons ” for example passes and equipment rental ” in sterling prior to leaving on holiday.

This top 5 isn’t authoritative, it lists my favorite ski areas in the continent. Others might nominate Bessans, Megeve and Super Besse however this list represent my top snowboarding mountains.
1. Cortina d`Ampezzo, Italy ” Picture perfect, the most beautiful winter wonderland resort in the world, its fantastic slopes are idyllic for beginners and intermediates. The scenery is jaw dropping even if the skiing isnt.
2. Wengen, Switzerland ” This beautiful ski resort exudes charm from the moment you arrive. It’s an easy going place; with many of the ski pistes having gentle runs leading up to Grindelwald.
3. Verbier, Switzerland ” With its four fantastic valleys and over 240 miles of slopes, this is a resort more for the experienced skier looking for a challenge. Exploring its off piste and moguls are just some of the things that make it worth your visit.
4. Flims Laax Falera, Switzerland ” Is famous for its 3 connected mountains: Flims, Laax and Falera making up one of the most popular skiing areas in Switzerland. It is more for the intermediate skiers and beginners, with over 130 miles of slopes to satisfy all skiers.
5.Chamonix, France - Situated at the foot of Mont-Blanc this town boasts fantastic skiing such as Les Grand Montets (1235 m ” 3000 m) and the linked areas of Br©vent / Fl©gre (1030 m - 2525 m) whilst providing a sense of adventure that won’t disappoint (and it’s only one hour from Geneva airport to Chamonix).

Tignes is amongst the better skiing areas for much sport and repose with so many activities to do in the summer French alps. Tignes is a lovely spot which provides the holiday maker hiking, white water rafting, cycling, events and much more for all the family to revel in. However as the first snow begins to cover the trees and mountain tops, and the waterfalls start to ice over, Tignes alters its costume from vivid fall colors to white. Tignes teems in winter fun ” huski rides, snowshoeing and monoskiing.
Tignes has been named the no. 1 ski resort in the French Alps year after year by skiing publications and avid snowboarders. A lofty 2200 m into the air, it with 67 pistes, the best being 6 miles, and there’s 615 miles of skiing. There are trails for beginners and reasonable skiers, and 54 trails for advanced skiers. Tignes’s lift systems can take 18000 skiers an hour thus there isn’t any wasting of fun time standing to catch a lift. One is able to choose the gondola for a fantastic overall vista of the domain and the surrounding area. For the hungry holiday maker, there are several restaurants which offer vin chaud and soups, snacks or full meals.

Climate change and the recession, these dual perils have let off the French Alps, at least for this Christmas. However it may have been so altogether contrary. Before the holidays villages in the Montroc region were cut off when heavy snow rained down. Dual carriage way passes such as the busy Col du La Tania were cut. There was no power or telephones, locals had to be moved out to make shift accommodation, it looked as if it were a repetition of 1996.
It looks that all publicity is good publicity. Plateau de Beille featured nightly on the French news. As soon as electricity was fixed bookings commenced to pour in, attracted by the good skiing conditions.
Brevent and neighbouring Superbagneres lay claim to almost 3 feet depth on the top slopes at 2100 metres elevation and 2.5 meters at the bottom of the resorts. Presently a record for France. Flaine reports there is five m at the top of the resort. Regrettably avalanches have knocked over a pylon of the chair lift which serves the area. They are out of action till mid Feb.
In other places in the Southern Alps ski breaks bookings are up 20% in Verchaix, Flegere and Espace Killy. Chatel has 99.3% occupancy and distributed a record number of lift passes during Friday. This is good for large skiing businesses.
